Congratulations to these eight students who received scholarships for 2024! These students receive a total of $2,000, providing $500 for each of four semesters for a student's first two years.
Including the 2024 recipients, the total number of scholarships awarded since 1995 is 136 and is administered by The Opportunity Plan, Inc. of Canyon, Texas.
Golden Spread makes annual contributions to the fund, in addition to making contributions in memory or in honor of past Board Members. Individual contributions are welcomed and add to the endowment for the scholarship fund.
Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Golden Spread) of Amarillo, Texas, a generation and transmission cooperative owned by 15 Texas and one Oklahoma electric distribution cooperatives, founded the scholarship in 1991 with an initial contribution in memory of Connie Gupton, James T. Hull and Dwight Hutchison. Continuing contributions by Golden Spread and various individuals provide additional capital for the scholarship fund.
The Founders intended that the names of other Golden Spread Directors who have been faithful stewards for the Golden Spread family be included in those remembered. Formed in memory of individuals who were dedicated to the development and advancement of rural electrification for the benefit of their Member-Consumers, the scholarship provides financial assistance for qualified electric cooperative family members seeking higher education.
